The people of Obudi Agwa in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State were left traumatised on Monday after gunmen stormed the community and shot their traditional ruler, Eze Ignatius Asor, dead.
The villagers said the gunmen stormed the town in broad daylight in a bus and on over 11 motorbikes and went straight to the palace of the prominent monarch, shooting him, and two others in his palace dead.
“They came in a bus, and 11 motorbikes at about 11am on Monday, went straight to the place of Eze Asor and shot him dead. They also killed two persons they met inside the palace with him.
“After that, they drove to another town, Mgbla Agwa, and went straight to a vigilante office in the town and opened fire at them,” an eyewitness said.
He said that the vigilantes ran away on seeing the gunmen, adding that some of them sustained gunshot wounds.
The state Police Public Relation Officer, Michael Abattam, who confirmed the report, said they are already on the trail of the hoodlums with the clues in their possession.
“Yes, it’s true but the police is already investigating the matter, we have clues already and we are on their trail”. Abattam said.
This is not the first time gunmen will be attacking Agwa.
In February this year, a retired police officer Chris Kpatuma a.k.a. Hipis, was murdered by gunmen in Mgbala Agwa.
A statement by Imo State Police in August this year, also narrated how gunmen attacked the Agwa Police Divisional Headquarters in Obudi Agwa and killed four officers.
