Some gunmen on Sunday night attacked Kaduna and Naknuwape villages of Gwada in Shiroro Local Government area of Niger State.
No fewer than three persons, including a police officer, were reportedly killed
Sources said a group of gunmen invaded their communities, shooting indiscriminately as residents were breaking their Ramadan fast.
The spokesperson of the Coalition of Shiroro Associations (COSA), Salis Sabo, recounted in a statement that the invaders were emboldened having launched many attacks in the area, unchallenged.
He said they had even reached Tapila Junction of Gwada town, a community thought to be a safe haven.
“At least two persons have been killed. One policeman and one civilian in Tapila”, the group said in the statement.
The gunmen reportedly kidnapped two persons, among them the son of an official of North-South Power Holding Company, and one other girl whose identity is still to be confirmed.
“They looted a business centre and stole mobile phones”, Sabo further revealed.
He stressed that attacked by the gunmen include: Chiri, Kwakwa, Jewi and Kadn, which are only a few kilometres from Gwada LGA.
“The terrorists continue to expand their tentacles even to the towns that were considered relatively peaceful. We now live at the mercy of terrorists. The government has failed woefully, the residents alleged, ” Sabo lamented.
The police spokesperson in Niger State, Wasiu Abiodun, could, however, not be reached for comments.
