Gunmen have reportedly killed 13 people working on their farms in the Anguwan Mai-Giro community of Shiroro Local Government Area in Niger State. The attack took place on Wednesday.
Niger State Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba condemned the attack in a statement, describing it as “satanic, insensible, atrocious, and callous.”
Garba expressed deep concern over the “barbaric and vicious act” committed against innocent farmers, calling it “utterly appalling and deeply disturbing.”
The deputy governor extended his condolences to the grieving families, the residents, and the entire Shiroro community, affirming that the state government remains committed to restoring peace and security across Niger State.
Garba also urged security agencies to remain steadfast in their efforts to combat criminal elements, assuring them of the government’s full support.
This attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents in Niger State. In March, bandits abducted over 20 women during an attack on a market in the Madaka community of Rafi LGA.
These ongoing assaults on farmers have further exacerbated Nigeria’s food security crisis.
