Gunmen suspected to be bandits terrorising some parts of the North, especially the North-West, have kidnapped two Catholic priests and two other persons in Kafur Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The clergymen are the Mai Kanbu Parish Priests, Father Stephen Ojapa, and Father Oliver Okpara. They were kidnapped alongside two of their visitors, all males.
A statement from the Director of Social Communications, Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Fr Chris Omotosho, said, “(there is) No information as to their whereabouts. Kindly pray for their safety and release.”
It was learnt that the gunmen broke into the St. Patrick Catholic Church rectory at Gidan Mai Kanbu at about 1:00 am on Wednesday.
Police authorities in the state are yet to confirm the incident as of the time this report was filed, but residents said the gunmen stormed the community in their numbers on foot.
The state police spokesman, SP Gambo Isah, who said the command has not received any report regarding the incident, promised to provide details of the incident once it is reported to the police.
