GTBank Denies Website Cloning, Assures Customers of Data Security Amid Domain Compromise Attempt

Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank), one of Nigeria’s leading financial institutions, has addressed concerns following the unavailability of its website, which has been down since Wednesday night.

In a statement released on Thursday, the bank clarified that the website was not cloned but was experiencing an “isolated incident of an attempt to compromise” its domain.

The sudden inaccessibility of the website had raised fears among customers about the potential compromise of their data. However, GTBank has assured its customers that their information remains secure.

The bank stated, “We do not store customer information on our website, and as such, there has been no instance of compromise of customer data.”

GTBank also emphasized that the reports of website cloning are unfounded, reassuring customers that they are taking all necessary steps to address the situation. “Our dedicated team of Information Security Experts is currently working round the clock to restore domain settings, and we can assure our customers that our website will be up shortly,” the statement read.

The bank urged customers to disregard any false claims circulating in the media and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting customer information.

“We urge all our Customers to please disregard the claims in these media reports and assure you of our unwavering commitment to safeguarding customer data,” GTBank added.

The bank’s response is expected to alleviate concerns as efforts continue to restore full access to the website.
