Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN) said it would begin to prosecute farmers who default to pay their loans in Niger State.
To this end, the Etsu Nupe and Chairman of Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, has inaugurated a task force for the recovery of the loans in Bida
Mayaki Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Aliyu Mayaki, who chaired the task force on behalf of Estu Nupe, warned that village heads or any individual found wanting would face the wrath of the law.
The State Coordinator of RIFAN special projects, Alhaji Idris Usman Makanta said that earlier efforts made by the association to recover its loans proved abortive.
Makanta, who equally flagged off the wet season rice farming, added that the scheme would accommodate large hectares of land.
“Twenty thousand civil servants will be captured in the present scheme to alleviate poverty in the state”, he said
