ODAHIEKWU OGUNDE, Yenagoa
Governor Douye Diri has inaugurated a 38-man Immunisation Task Force headed by the Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, in the state.
The 38-man committee is made up of heads of parastatals and agencies including security outfits.
Giving his charge to the team, Diri charged the committee to work together to make Bayelsa a disease-free state.
He said: “We are about to inaugurate a very important task force in the life of this state concerning health. We are all aware of how our government was welcomed with the Covid-19 pandemic, and at that time there was no cure.
“Today, there are now vaccines, people are being immunized and prevented from Covid-19, and that is to underscore the importance of this task force.
“Prevention, they say, is better than cure. And this task force, because of its importance, it is going to be headed by no lesser a government official than His Excellency, the Deputy Governor. His Excellency will act as the Chairman of this task force.
“I am not unaware that very recently Bayelsa State came first in the immunization rating in this country and I am sure that, that is the feat you will sustain and we will not go below now that we have a very capable task force to attend to issues of immunization.”
