Gov Nwifuru to Ebonyi Workers: End Strike in 72 Hours or Lose Your Jobs

Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has given state workers a stern ultimatum, demanding that they return to work within 72 hours or face dismissal.

The governor’s directive came in response to a seven-day warning strike organized by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Ebonyi State chapter, over the non-implementation of the new minimum wage.

Addressing the press on Monday at the new Government House in Abakaliki, Nwifuru stated that the state government has fully implemented the N75,000 minimum wage and was not owing any worker.

He emphasized that workers’ salaries were being paid in accordance with the state’s agreements and constitutional provisions.

“If you don’t go to work, not only will I not pay you your salary, but I will replace you within 72 hours,” Nwifuru said.

“If I don’t see you in your office, consider yourself sacked. I am not guilty; I am paying you what you deserve.”

The governor further warned that all government agencies, commissioners, and departments must adhere to his directive, stressing that those who fail to report to their offices would not be compensated for the days they miss.

“I will pay you by the number of days you attended work.

If you don’t want to come to work, you will forget about the state government,” he added.

The warning strike, which began on Sunday, is a response to delays in implementing the agreed new wage, but Nwifuru’s stance underscores the state’s commitment to meeting its financial obligations to workers while maintaining office productivity.
