Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has paid glowing tribute to the late Niger Delta freedom fighter, Major Isaac Jasper Adaka Boro, reaffirming his government’s commitment to the development and unity of the region.
Speaking during the 2025 Boro Day celebration and wreath-laying ceremony at Heroes Park in Yenagoa, the Governor described Boro as a symbol of courage, justice, and the relentless struggle for resource control in the Niger Delta.
“After 57 years, the legacy of our Ijaw hero, Major Isaac Boro, continues to inspire,” the Governor said. “We honour his bravery in championing the cause of minorities and his fight against oppression and neglect in the Niger Delta.”
He emphasized that the region is now witnessing new waves of development and that the demand for greater control over its oil and gas resources remains active and relevant.

While calling for unity among Niger Delta people, the Governor assured that his administration would continue to build consensus for both human and infrastructural development across the Ijaw Nation.
Using the occasion to address growing concerns about youth involvement in criminal activities, he appealed to young people to shun cultism and embrace meaningful pursuits.
“We shall continue to identify with Boro’s family and the disciples of his vision to carry forward the dreams our heroes left behind,” he concluded.
