Operatives of Oyo State Security Network, aka Amotekun, have raised an alarm that foreign Fulanis, who allegedly have infiltrated the South-West, may launch a major attack on the region soon.
This is even as the Chairman of the security outfit in Oyo State, Gen Kunle Togun (Rtd), warned the residents in the region to be vigilant in order to avoid being the victims of the foreigners who had laid siege to the region.
Togun, who was a director at the Directorate of Military Intelligence said the Fulanis are majorly from Mali, Niger Republic, Chad and Burkina Faso, adding that they have infiltrated the forest in South-West region for years.
He spoke on Wednesday while speaking at an annual lecture organised by the students of the Institute of Peace and Strategic Studies, University of Ibadan.
According to him, “The people who are supposed to administer Nigeria to move forward are biased in the aspect of religion. The Fulani that I grew up to know were the native Fulani.
“But these ones causing problems are non-Nigerians. They are from FutaJallon, Mali, Burkina Faso, Chad, Niger Republic. Some of these people were Tuaregs, who used to ambush traders in the olden days and robbed them of their money and property.
“These foreign Fulani, somebody has told them that Allah has given Nigeria to them as their heritage and they are coming here to come and take what Allah has given them.”
He, however, called on the residents of Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti and Ondo states to be security conscious, adding that the Fulanis had earlier studied the region with their foot soldiers who were majorly commercial motorcyclists.
