For the sake of peace and as part of efforts to curtail the crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has withdrawn from the 2023 senatorial race.
Ganduje was said to have already obtained the Kano Central senatorial district form, but decided to jettison his ambition and agreed to withdraw from the contest for Senator Barau Jibrin.
The development, it was gathered, followed a series of meetings Ganduje and Jibrin had with other top APC stalwarts in Abuja, where the governor was urged to drop his
senatorial ambition for the sake of the party’s unity in Kano State.
Jibrin, it was learnt, had insisted to remain in APC amid his gubernatorial ambition being truncated by Ganduje’s political ambition.
However, following recent exodus of many Kano APC members to other political parties, Ganduje, it was learnt, decided to let Jibrin and some other members have their way to avoid the loss of more members.
The state secretary of the party, Zakari Sarina, who confirmed the agreement between Governor Ganduje and Jibrin, said: “Yes, there is a tangible understanding between the duo and it will be made public soon.”
