Flying Eagles Draw Tunisia, Kenya, Morocco in U-20 AFCO

Seven-time champions Nigeria have been drawn into a challenging group alongside Tunisia, Kenya, and Morocco for the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will take place in Egypt from April 27 to May 18.

The Flying Eagles, one of the most successful teams in the tournament’s history, will be aiming to end a decade-long title drought as they pursue an eighth continental crown. Their last triumph came in 2015.

The group stage promises tough encounters, with North African powerhouses Tunisia and Morocco posing serious threats, while Kenya looks to spring surprises as underdogs.

Nigeria, however, remains confident in their young talent and rich legacy in youth football.

In addition to continental glory, the stakes are higher this year as the top four teams will also secure qualification for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile, representing the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on the global stage.

Head coach Aliyu Zubairu, believes the boys will do well despite being in a though group.

“It’s a tough group, no doubt, but we are focused. Our boys understand the responsibility and the legacy they carry,” Zubairu said.

Nigeria kicks off their campaign on April 28, with hopes high that the Flying Eagles can soar once again—both in Africa and on the world stage.
