National Emergency Management Agency has begun the distribution of food items and building materials to the victims of 2020 floods that ravaged the eight local government areas of Bayelsa State. The distribution of the relief items took place on Wednesday at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Yenagoa. The items distributed were rice, millets, beans, garri, cooking stoves, cement, roofing zincs, among others. The Head of Operations, NEMA Edo Operations Office, Mr Dahiru Yusuf, said the items donated were only for the 2020 flood victims.Yusuf said the distribution became necessary to prevent most of the items, especially foodstuffs from getting spoilt. He said they were still expecting more items to be distributed to the disaster victims in the state.Yusuf explained that they were moving the items to the local government headquarters, where they would be shared to the various communities that were mostly affected. He stated, “The items will be shared according to the most affected areas; while those that were less affected will receive little.”We urged them to share the items without bias. They should get to the affected victims in their areas.”He said the distribution was carried out in conjunction with the Bayelsa State Emergency Management Agency.
