The Federal Government has condemned and rejected the coup d’etat in the Republic of Guinea and called on the masterminds to restore constitutional order immediately.
It said the act violated the ECOWAS Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance.
President Conakry Alpha Conde of Guinea was ousted and arrested on Sunday following a coup by Army putschists.
A statement signed by the spokesperson of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esther Sunsuwa, and titled ‘Nigerian Government Condemns Coup D’Etat in Guinea,’ read:
“The Nigerian government is saddened by the apparent coup d’etat that has taken place in the Republic of Guinea today, in clear violation of the ECOWAS Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance.
“The Government of Nigeria strongly condemns and rejects any unconstitutional change of government and therefore calls on those behind the coup to restore constitutional order without delay and protect lives and property.”
