Justice John Tsoho, Chief Judge of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, announced that the court’s 2024 yuletide vacation for judges will begin on December 16, 2024, and conclude on January 6, 2025.
Court sessions will resume in all divisions on January 7, 2025, according to a circular issued on Wednesday in Abuja.
The circular cited Order 46, Rule 4 (C) of the Federal High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019, which allows limited judicial activity during this period.
It noted that only urgent matters, including those involving fundamental rights enforcement, vessel arrests or releases, and issues of pressing national interest, will be addressed by vacation judges.
During the holiday break, only the Abuja, Lagos, and Port Harcourt Judicial Divisions will remain open for essential cases.
The roster of judges on duty includes Justice Emeka Nwite and Justice M. S. Liman in Abuja; Justice Akintayo Aluko and Justice Isaac Dipeolu in Lagos; and Justice P. M. Ayua and Justice A. T. in Port Harcourt.
