FCT Police to Impound Vehicles Without Number Plates

Kehinde Fajobi

The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Tunji Disu, has directed that all vehicles without number plates be impounded across the territory.

The move comes amid an increase in “one-chance” incidents in the capital.

In a statement, FCT Police spokesperson Josephine Adeh announced that additional personnel and equipment would be deployed for enhanced patrols, stop-and-search operations, and surveillance to combat rising crime.

“The FCT Police Command is deploying additional personnel and equipment for patrols, stop-and-search operations, and surveillance throughout the Federal Capital Territory.

“This initiative aims to combat rising incidents of ‘one chance’ crimes and car theft,” Adeh said.

She also confirmed that regulations on covered number plates and tinted windows would be strictly enforced.

“While these operations may cause some inconvenience, they reflect our commitment to the safety of all FCT residents and to deterring criminal activities targeting motorists and passengers,” she added.

Adeh further revealed that the initiative had already led to the recovery of stolen vehicles and the arrest of suspects.

“Since launching these measures, we have successfully recovered stolen vehicles and apprehended ‘one chance’ robbers.

“We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation during these operations, and we advise vehicle owners to ensure compliance with all regulations,” she said.

The FCT Police Command continues to urge residents to report suspicious activities and work together with officers to ensure a safe environment.
