Family Announces Funeral Plans for Ayo Adebanjo

The family of Ayo Adebanjo, the late elder statesman and former factional leader of Afenifere, has released details of his funeral rites.

Adebanjo, a prominent advocate for democracy, federalism and national unity, died on February 14 at the age of 96.

In a statement on Thursday, April 24, the family said the ceremonies were designed to honour his lifelong commitment to national development and Yoruba identity.

The tributes will begin on April 30 with a service of songs at Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos.

A wake is scheduled for May 2 at his country home in Isanya Ogbo, near Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.

The main funeral service will take place on May 3 at St. Phillips Anglican Church, also in Isanya Ogbo, followed by a thanksgiving service on May 4.

The family also indicated that materials such as programme brochures and background information would be made available, and expressed openness to interviews and media briefings ahead of the event.
