The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced the temporary shutdown of the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport (SLAA) in Ibadan, Oyo State.
This closure is to facilitate comprehensive upgrade works aimed at enhancing the airport’s infrastructure and operational standards, aligning with a strategic initiative to elevate the facility to international status.
FAAN confirmed the closure in an official statement, citing the Federal Government’s approval as a necessary step to execute critical improvements at the airport. The Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has subsequently implemented the runway closure and suspended airport operations, adhering to International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) regulations.
The upgrade project is a key component of the Oyo State Government’s vision to transform Ibadan Airport from a domestic aerodrome to an international hub. These ongoing improvements and remodeling works are designed to meet global aviation standards and significantly improve the passenger experience.
