SEGUN AYINDE, Abeokuta
Gubernatorial candidate of the Social Democratic Party in Ogun State, Otunba Deji Osinowo, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to extend the deadline for the voter registration exercise.
The registration of voters for 2023 general elections comes to an end on Sunday, 31st of July.
But Osiwono while appealing to the electoral body in Abeokuta to extend the deadline, expressed concern over the stress some people have been undergoing to perfect their permanent voter registration.
He said that some people would have to travel to their wards, councils and constituencies to search for their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), fill the claims and objections forms and transfer the PVCs where necessary.
The SDP guber candidate said although it was necessary for INEC to have a deadline, Nigerians yet to perfect their PVCs should be allowed to exercise their franchise by extending the date.
“One would expect INEC to extend this deadline. My appeal to them is to do so,” he stated.
