The wife of late Nigeria head of state, Major General, Aguiyi-Ironsi, Victoria Aguiyi-Ironsi is dead.
It was learnt that she died at the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, Abia State in the early hours of Monday after a prolonged battle with stroke. She would have been 98 on November 21, 2021.
She was born on November 21, 1923, and got married to Aguiyi-Ironsi while she was 16 and a student of Holy Rosary Convent School, Okigwe in 1953.
Victoria was the first lady from January 17, 1966, to July 1966 as her husband was killed in Ibadan, Oyo State, on July 29, 1966, in a coup.
After the death of her husband, who was killed while in office as the supreme commander of the National Military Government, she did not remarry. She had eight children with Aguiyi-Ironsi.
