The government of Equatorial Guinea has dismissed Baltasar Ebang Engonga, Director General of the National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), following a scandal involving explicit videos that surfaced online.
President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo ordered Engonga’s dismissal after videos emerged showing him in intimate encounters with high-profile women, sparking widespread public outcry.
The president’s decision was formalised through Decree No. 118/2024 on November 4, citing “alleged misconduct” and “personal and social behaviour incompatible with his public position.”
The scandal has drawn intense scrutiny, as nearly 400 videos showing Engonga with VIP women, including some relatives, were leaked on social media.
Among the critics of Engonga’s actions is the First Lady, Constancia Mangue Obiang.
In a meeting with Prime Minister Manuel Osa Nsue, she voiced her frustration over the incident and urged immediate governmental action to protect the dignity of Equatoguinean women.
“H.E. Mrs. Constancia Mangue of Obiang, in addition to showing her indignation for this event, has wanted to know the strategy that the Government proposes to mitigate this situation that does nothing but distort and denigrate the image and reputation of the Guineo-Ecuadorian woman, despite the efforts made on the issue of gender,” her office stated.
