Popular Nigerian rapper and actor, Folarin Falana, fondly called Falz, and Comedian Debo Adebayo, better known as Mr Macaroni, joined the car procession at the #EndSARSMemorial protest at Lekki tollgate in Lagos on Wednesday.
This was amidst the ban on protests in Lagos and massive armed police personnel at the tollgate.
The celebrities and other people turned up at the tollgate with their cars and were seen waving Nigerian flags from inside the vehicles and honking the horns while singing solidarity songs.
Some of the activists who spoke to newsmen noted that they would continue going to and fro the tollgate as their own way of protesting against the alleged killing of protesters at the tollgate on October 20, 2020.
The Lekki tollgate was the centre of the protests against police brutality and bad governance last October, and people lost their lives.
Recall that youths who assembled at the tollgate were disassembled from the location by the Nigerian Army on October 20, 2020.
This led to the destruction of private and public properties by hoodlums in Lagos, an incident that informed the ban on protests issued by the police in the state.
During the memorial on Wednesday (today), Falz and other people in his vehicle could be heard questioning the serious looking officers.
Some of the questions they asked were: “Are you okay? Have you eaten today?
“What are the plans for your retirement? What will happen to you after service?”
Another person could be heard explaining, “We are doing this for you, for all of us. Nigeria is our country”.
The protesters dropped the Nigerian flags they were holding at the toll gate.
