Wale Ajetunmobi, the Senior Special Assistant on Print Media to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has responded to his suspension over comments he made regarding the #EndSARS protests.
Ajetunmobi acknowledged that his use of the term “executed” was a mistake and clarified that it was not intended in the manner it was perceived.
He explained that his statement was misunderstood and taken out of context, adding that he had already deleted the controversial post from his social media account.
Gboyega Akosile, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Sanwo-Olu, confirmed the suspension, attributing Ajetunmobi’s post on the platform formerly known as Twitter as “misrepresentation of facts”
In the deleted post dated 23rd of November, Ajetunmobi alleged that those who set fire to a media house during the 2020 #EndSARS protests were “hunted down and executed.”
The post triggered widespread criticism leading to the announcement of his suspension.
In a statement addressing the issue, Ajetunmobi remarked: “This is my only and final response to this misrepresentation. The excerpt was quoted out of context, and there were additional comments under the same post that clarified the intended meaning. As I further explained in the thread, there was no suggestion of extrajudicial killings. The term ‘executed’ was mistakenly used and was not meant to convey such an implication.”
He emphasized that his comments represented his personal views and did not reflect the position of his workplace or any authority.
Ajetunmobi also noted that he had removed the post and all related comments before the situation gained public attention.
