Emefiele: Drama as DSS arrests Ikoyi prison boss in court

… after secret police operatives, prison officials clash over suspended CBN gov’s custody

Operatives of Department of State Services, on Tuesday, arrested a top official of the Ikoyi Prisons inside the premises of the Federal High Court in Lagos State.

It was gathered that the prison officials arrest may not be unconnected with the clash between the operatives of the two government agencies over who keeps custody of the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele.

DSS operatives who arrested the prison official, rough-handled him before throwing him into their vehicle. They however later released the harassed prison official.

Federal Ministry of Justice had earlier on Tuesday arraigned Emefiele for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. The court however granted him bail in the sum of N20m with one surety, after pleading not guilty to the charges.

But as Emefiele’s lawyers were trying to perfect his bail conditions, the mild drama and clash occurred within the court premises between fully hooded DSS operatives and NCS officials over who will take custody of the embattled CBN boss.

Two Hilux vehicles belonging to both the DSS and the Prisons Service were positioned near the entrance to the court.

Prison officials also brought dogs into the court premises.

It was gathered that there were moves by the DSS operatives to rearrest Emefiele despite the bail granted to him by the court.
