…as lawmakers replace him with first female Speaker
Members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, on Monday, impeached the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Gboyega Aribisogan.
The lawmakers removed Aribisogan from the seat barely six days after he was elected into office as Speaker.
The Speaker was impeached and suspended indefinitely by seventeen other lawmakers.
He was accused of blocking the passage of the 2022 Supplementary Appropriation Bill.
The lawmakers immediately replaced Aribisogan with the Assembly Chief Whip, Rt. Hon. Olubunmi Adelugba from Emure Constituency.
Adelugba was unanimously elected new Speaker by all the 17 lawmakers present at a plenary presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Hakeem Jamiu.
The oath of office and allegiance was subsequently administered on Adelugba, who became the first female Speaker in the history of the Assembly, since 1999.
