The Federal Government has declared Monday, September 16, 2024, a public holiday to commemorate Eid-ul-Mawlid, marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad.

The announcement was made on Friday, September 13, by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the government.

In a statement signed by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the minister extended his congratulations to the Muslim Ummah both in Nigeria and abroad for the celebration of this significant religious occasion.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo also urged Muslims, and by extension all Nigerians, to embrace the values of patience, sacrifice, and resilience during this period. He further encouraged the faithful to use the occasion to offer prayers for lasting peace and prosperity in the nation.

The declaration comes as Muslims across the world prepare to honor the Prophet’s birth, which is an important event in the Islamic calendar.
