Head coach of Rivers United, Stanley Eguma, has thumbed up the performance of his players following their CAF Confederation Cup qualification.
Rivers United reached the next round of the CAF Confederation Cup following a 2-0 penalty shootout win against Futuro Kings at the Adokiye Amasiemeka Stadium on Sunday.
The Port Harcourt based club headed to the game on the back of their 2-1 defeat in the first leg.
Godwin Aguda cancelled the deficit before Kehinde Adedipe gave the NPFL side a 3-2 aggregate lead.
Asu Pedro scored to take the game into penalty shootout as Rivers United emerged winner.
Eguma while speaking after the game admitted that their opponent made the game tough but his players were equal to the task.
“It was not an easy game, it was a difficult game, but I thank God and the players too.
“We put on a spirited effort even when we conceded that goal against run of play.
“We have decided to win, we outplayed our opponents and got two early goals, we should have increased the tally before they got their goal which kept us per, but I think it was a good game today and we have qualified for the next round,” he said.
Rivers United will continue their quest to reach the money spinning group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup against South African side Bloemfontein Celtics.
