Interim Super Eagles manager, Austin Eguavoen, has expressed optimism about the national team’s prospects ahead of their upcoming matches, assuring Nigerians that the Super Eagles will soon regain their dominant form.
In a recent press briefing, Eguavoen stressed the importance of respecting every opponent, regardless of their standing.
“Nigeria is a nation a lot of countries respect in football, and this time is no different. I’m very confident we will scale through these two games and beyond. We have the players, we have the material, we have the personnel, and we have the support—we have everything,” Eguavoen stated.
He further reminded the team of their recent success, nearly clinching the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) title just months ago.
“The only thing we have to remind these players about is that they were almost African champions months ago. It’s not even a year yet, so what went wrong? Still, the new technical crew will do everything possible, and Nigerians will rally around them to turn the tables.”
Eguavoen revealed that he has already spoken to the players and that more meetings are planned before the crucial games. He expressed confidence that the Super Eagles will rise to the occasion.
“I’m very confident they will come out and do the nation proud,” he said.
However, Eguavoen was quick to underline the need for caution and respect, particularly in their match against Benin.
“We will treat Benin with respect, because in football, if you disrespect people, you have a problem. So we will play them with big respect, but this is our home.”
The interim manager’s remarks have stirred hope among Nigerian football fans, as the Super Eagles gear up for what could be a pivotal moment in their journey to reclaiming their place as one of Africa’s footballing powerhouses.
