Uloma Nwosu, daughter of the detained former Imo State governor and presidential aspirant of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Rochas Okorocha, says the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has no legal justification for arresting her father on Tuesday.
Uloma said the EFCC operatives who carried out her father’s arrest did not present any legal document to back his arrest.
Okorocha’s daughter stated this while narrating her experience concerning her father’s arrest, on an Arise TV programme on Wednesday.
She stressed that the EFCC operatives did not show the family any legal document or warrant of arrest to back their forcible entry into Okorocha’s Maitama, Abuja residence.
According to her, “The way they (EFCC operatives) had presented themselves did not show that it was something that was official, because there was no legal documents supporting their action. So you could say it was illegal battery or whatever we may call it.
“At this point, I was also scared as well, because it didn’t look official, it didn’t look like something that was done right. So, of course, we were afraid for His Excellency’s life, and that’s why he requested something that was simple: ‘give us a document, give us a paper, a court order.’”
EFCC operatives had on Tuesday arrested Okorocha after laying a nine-hour siege to his Maitama, Abuja residence.
The APC presidential hopeful was arrested after security operatives fired gunshots and teargas canisters to disperse supporters protesting against his arrest. The EFCC operatives then forced their way into the residence breaking down the bullet proof main door.
