Barely one month after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) detained the immediate past governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, the anti-graft agency on Thursday arrested his wife, Eberechukwu, and took her into custody in Abuja.
Eberechukwu had been under the searchlight of the EFCC until her arrest on Thursday.
The former Anambra first lady, we learnt, was being questioned by the commission’s agents for alleged fraud.
Recall that Obiano’s wife had on March 17 during the inauguration of Prof Charles Soludo as the new governor of Anambra physically engaged a former Nigerian ambassador to Spain and wife of Biafra warlord, Mrs Bianca Ojukwu, in a brawl at the venue.
Eberechukwu is currently aspiring to contest the Anambra North Senatorial District seat in the 2023 elections on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
A month ago, her husband was apprehended at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on his way to travel to the United States some few hours after he handed over rein of governance to his successor, Soludo.
Ex-governor Obiano was then transferred to Abuja the next day where EFCC operatives grilled him over the alleged diversion of N37 billion security vote and N5billion SURE-P fund.
But EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, last night, denied any knowledge of Mrs Obiano’s arrest by the commission.
