The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested Kelly Okungbowa, also known as Ebo Stone, for alleged naira abuse.
Okungbowa, a former chairman of the Edo State Asset Recovery Committee and the State Coordinator of the Public Safety Response Team (PSR), was arrested by operatives of the Benin Zonal Directorate.
He is known to be a close associate of the state Governor Monday Okpebholo.
This was contained in a statement by the Commission and shared on its Facebook page on Monday.
A video that went viral on Sunday, captured Okungbowa, spraying bundles of naira notes on two strippers at a private party.
Okungbowa was taken into custody following the video showing him spraying and mutilating the naira at a bar on the 9th of March 2025.
“He will be charged to court as soon as investigations are completed,” the EFCC stated.

He was arrested as authorities intensified efforts to combat naira abuse, an offense that is subject to legal penalties under Nigerian law.
The Edo State Government had earlier suspended him from his role as coordinator of the PSRT.
Meanwhile, in a similar incident, First News reported on Monday how the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arrested Murja Ibrahim Kunya, a popular TikTok influencer in Kano over allegations of naira mutilation.
Kunya was taken into custody on Saturday following accusations of currency misuse.
According to the EFCC report, she had previously been arrested and was scheduled for arraignment three weeks earlier but allegedly escaped from custody before she could be charged.
