Edo Polls: Davido Pushes for Transparent Voting

Popular Nigerian singer David Adeleke, fondly called Davido, has shed light on his keen interest in the ongoing Edo State governorship election.

On the 21st of September, 2024, the voters in Edo State came out in large numbers to participate in the off-cycle gubernatorial election.

Davido, however, sparked conversations after persistently criticizing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on X, accusing them of electoral malpractice. Many began to wonder why the singer, who hails from Osun State, would be so invested in the Edo elections.

While responding to the speculation on his X account, Davido clarified that his late mother, Imade Veronica Adeleke, was a native of Edo State.

He added that beyond his familial ties, his concerns stem from his broader responsibility as a Nigerian.

He reminded followers that he had similarly called out INEC during the Osun State gubernatorial race, where his uncle, Ademola Adeleke, vied for the governorship an election that ultimately saw him emerge as the state’s governor.

“My mom is from Edo for those wondering why I’m interested in the election … but we as Nigerians should be concerned sha .. @inecnigeria shame on you I know how many times I had to come in here and rant before they got it right in Osun! It’s really bad. God help us,” he wrote.

Remember that Davido previously showed his support for the PDP candidate, Asuen Ighodalo, through a post on his Instagram account.
