Edo State Government has unveiled the untapped business opportunities in the state.
The state Commissioner for Business, Trade, and Cooperatives, Patrick Iria Ikpefa Uanseru, in a statement, highlighted some of the opportunities, adding that the unveiling of the business potential was made known during an interview with Jordan FM.
He emphasized that Edo State is an exemplar for Nigeria and a meeting point for arts, culture, and business, adding that the state is the 22nd largest state in Nigeria in terms of landmass and presents a minefield of opportunities for various industries.
Mr Uanseru discussed several sectors that offer significant business potential in Edo State to include haulage, palm produce, renewable energy, arts and culture, mining of natural resources, urban merchandising, oil palm business, tourism, and hospitality.
He also noted that Edo State is known as the food basket of Nigeria due to its agricultural resources, despite being the official Heartbeat of the nation.
Asked about the development of cultural festivals and events in the state, the Commissioner explained that the government of Governor Godwin Obaseki, is collaborating with the Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Tourism to promote arts and culture and attract events similar to the Calabar Carnival.
He expressed confidence about the significant progress envisioned in this area before the end of this government.
On the ease of doing business in Edo State, Mr Uanseru highlighted the government’s efforts to promote business and youth involvement in the digital economy.
He also mentioned infrastructure investments in fibre optics and innovation hubs. To showcase innovations and attract investment, plans for a tech fair were also mentioned
On safety and security, Mr Uanseru assured that Edo State is relatively safe, maintaining that the government is proactively addressing security issues and investing in security gadgets and monitoring systems to ensure the safety of residents and businesses.
On market potential in the State, Mr Uanseru disclosed the ongoing development of the Benin City Mall and the Edo Port to attract more investments.
He highlighted the Benin Industrial Park, which has drawn interest from companies, and the Ossiomo Power Plant, which provides reliable energy to industrial areas.
Disclosing the government’s efforts to create a coastal town in the Gelegele area, the Commissioner revealed plans to attract companies, particularly in the fertiliser blending industry and infrastructure projects like the Ossiomo Independent Power Plant, to provide energy and attract investors.
He emphasized that Edo State government, through the able leadership of Governor Obaseki, is actively promoting various sectors, investing in infrastructure, and creating a conducive environment for business growth.
This is even as he provided valuable insights into the opportunities available and the government’s commitment to economic development in Edo State.
