Edo Governorship Election: INEC Begins Collation of Results

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the collation of results for the Edo State governorship election. This follows the activation of state-level collation centres, with the process being overseen by the returning officer, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna.

During a press conference on Sunday, Mohammed Haruna, INEC’s National Commissioner and member of the Information and Voter Education Committee, confirmed the commencement of the collation process, stating, “We are set to commence state-level collation.”

INEC also activated the INEC Result Viewing (IReV) portal, allowing the upload of results directly from polling units. According to the commission, results from the 192 wards in Edo State have already been collated, with many of the Local Government Areas having completed their collation process.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the collation of results will proceed as provided by the Electoral Act 2022 and our regulations and guidelines for the conduct of elections. There is a mechanism for redressing complaints during collation, including the power to review results declared under duress. The Commission will not hesitate to invoke such powers where necessary,” Haruna said.

INEC has urged party agents, observers, and media representatives to be granted unhindered access to collation centres to ensure transparency.

The commission also called on security agencies to maintain the professionalism and vigilance displayed during the election process, ensuring that the final stages are conducted peacefully.
