Edo State Governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has officially received a 24-page report from the State Transition Committee, marking a critical step in the transfer of power from the outgoing administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki.
This report, presented by the committee’s chairman, Dr. Pius Odubu, will guide the incoming administration as it prepares for its inauguration on Tuesday, November 12, 2024.
The 25-member transition committee, formed on October 14, 2024, engaged extensively with the current Edo State government over three weeks, investigating various aspects of the state’s governance under Governor Obaseki.
In his presentation, Dr. Odubu emphasized that the report’s findings and recommendations are designed to serve as a roadmap for Senator Okpebholo’s administration, providing guidance for effective governance.
The report is said to include an in-depth analysis of issues surrounding the outgoing government, with particular focus on recent employment practices and questions about the ownership of key state assets.
Dr. Odubu noted that these issues are critical for the incoming government’s transparency and accountability efforts, hinting at the potential need for reforms as Okpebholo assumes office.
Upon receiving the report, Senator Okpebholo expressed his gratitude to the committee for their hard work and assured them that he would thoroughly review their recommendations.
“This report will be pivotal as we prepare to chart a new path for Edo State,” Okpebholo stated, underscoring his commitment to using the findings to inform his administration’s decisions.
In anticipation of the inauguration, Edo APC Chairman Jarret Tenebe affirmed the party’s preparations for the swearing-in ceremony.
The event, set for Tuesday, will see Senator Monday Okpebholo and Dennis Idahosa take their oaths of office as Governor and Deputy Governor, respectively, marking the start of Okpebholo’s tenure as Edo State’s fifth executive governor in Nigeria’s democratic era.
This handover signals a new chapter for Edo State, as the incoming administration pledges to address concerns raised by the committee and steer the state towards progress and development.
