Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has lost his Oredo Local Government Area to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the governorship election results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
According to the official results declared on Sunday in Benin City, the APC candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, secured a total of 30,780 votes in Oredo LGA, defeating the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, who garnered 24,938 votes.
Ighodalo, who was endorsed by Governor Obaseki as his preferred successor, suffered defeat in the governor’s home local government, a key battleground in the closely contested election.
The result from Oredo is a significant win for the APC, as the collation of votes continues across the state.
