On Sunday, when the 2018 FIFA World Cup started, host nation Qatar became the first World Cup hosts in history to drop their opening match of the competition, falling to Ecuador 2-0.
As Qatar’s inaugural World Cup finals match ended in defeat, Ecuador earned a well-deserved Group A victory thanks to two goals in the first half from veteran striker Enner Valencia.
After an impressive performance by the Ecuadorians, Qatari supporters started leaving the Al Bayt Stadium well before the final whistle.
