The Department of State Services, DSS, has refuted claims that its agents broke into the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, headquarters in Abuja and occupied Godwin Emefiele’s office.
The embattled CBN Governor, Emefiele, was said to have resumed work after his vacation.
Reacting to the alleged invasion, the DSS spokesperson, Dr. Peter Afunanya, called reports of the secret police invasion of CBN Headquarters in Abuja “false news making the rounds.”
Recall that on December 19, 2022, Justice John Tsoho of the Federal High Court of Abuja and President of the Court, rejected a request by the DSS to arrest and imprison Emefiele on charges of terrorism.
On December 29, 2022, the FCT High Court in Garki issued an order prohibiting the DSS, EFCC, and police from detaining or harassing Emefiele.
The embattled CBN Governor claimed he was abroad for medical treatment when he was unable to personally appear before the Senate on December 28 after being summoned over the policy on cash withdrawal restrictions.
