Twin brothers Matthew and Matthias Busoye have accomplished a remarkable and rare academic feat at the University of Ibadan (UI), both graduating with First Class Honours in Electronic and Electrical Engineering and achieving an identical Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.94 out of a possible 4.00.
Their parallel success placed them not only at the top of their department but also earned them the distinction of being the joint Best Graduating Students in the Faculty of Technology for the 2023/2024 academic session.
Matthias Busoye initially shared the celebratory news via a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, April 9, 2025. He detailed their consistent academic excellence throughout their five-year program, highlighting their GPAs year by year which culminated in the matching final CGPA of 3.94.
Complementing his brother’s post, Matthew Busoye shared on X the following day, Thursday, April 10, about the privilege of delivering the induction speech as the Faculty’s Best Graduating Student.
Reflecting on their journey, part of his speech read, “Truth be told, this still feels surreal. My brother and I standing here today isn’t a reflection of being the most deserving or most diligent students; far from it. But for some reason, we are here,” expressing humility and a desire to inspire others facing challenges.
Beyond their academic achievements, both brothers were actively involved in student leadership.

During the 2023/2024 session, Matthias served as the Speaker of the 11th Assembly of the University of Ibadan Students’ Representative Council (SRC), while Matthew held the position of President of the Society of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Students (SEEES-UI).
Their departmental student body, SEEEES-UI, formally celebrated the twins’ outstanding performance and leadership contributions, acknowledging them as the overall best graduating students in both the department and the faculty.
The twins’ unique achievement garnered significant attention, with moments from their graduation and induction ceremonies capturing public interest.
A widely shared photo showed their mother praying with them, holding their hands in celebration, while another video clip captured the “thunderous applause” as they were called onto the stage together during the induction ceremony.
