The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the detention of Salisu Mustapha, the owner of three dogs that allegedly mauled a security guard to death at Pinnock Estate, Ilasan, Lekki.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, made the announcement on Wednesday via the Command’s official X handle, @benHundeyin, stating that the tragic incident occurred on November 5.
According to Hundeyin, the police acted promptly after residents raised the alarm on social media, alerting authorities to the deadly attack. Preliminary reports suggest that the dogs escaped due to inadequate confinement measures and attacked the security guard, leading to his untimely death.
“The police have apprehended the owner of the dogs following the unfortunate mauling of a security guard to death by three dogs at Pinnock Estate, Ilasan, Lekki,” Hundeyin stated.
He further disclosed that the dogs have been confiscated pending the outcome of ongoing investigations.
In a statement, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olanrewaju Ishola, assured the public of a thorough investigation and pledged that justice would be served.
“CP Ishola assures residents of the estate and the entire state that investigations will be brought to a conclusive end and justice will be served appropriately,” added Hundeyin.
The tragic incident has sparked widespread concern, with residents calling for greater safety measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
