ODAHIEKWU OGUNDE, Yenagoa
Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has saluted the security agencies, particularly the military, for their selfless sacrifices to keep the country stable and united.
Diri gave the commendation while speaking as a special guest of honour at the 2021 end-of-year get-together organised by the Operation Delta Safe at its headquarters in Igbogene, Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
The Governor, represented by his deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, said that Nigeria was stable despite its daunting problems due to the dedication and sacrifices made by officers and men of the various security agencies.
He said if not for the gallantry and concerted efforts of the military working under very difficult circumstances, the country would have been much worse than what it was at present.
According to the Governor, the event is commendable as it creates the opportunity of motivating military officers who have left their families for the critical assignment of protecting the territorial integrity and security of the nation.
While appreciating the achievements of the JTF so far in stemming violent crimes in the Niger Delta, the Governor charged the officers to redouble their efforts to effectively tackle the pockets of security challenges in the region.
He assured the military and other security agencies of his administration’s continued commitment towards building a safer and prosperous Bayelsa.
In his welcome address, the Commander, OPDS, Rear Admiral Aminu Hassan, thanked God, the federal and state governments for the operational successes recorded by the security outfit in the outgone year.
Hassan said the OPDS was activated in 2016 to stem the tide of insecurity and protect critical oil and gas assets in the Niger Delta.
He added that the outfit had successfully carried out several operations against oil theft, sea piracy, and other criminal activities.
While appreciating the government and people of Bayelsa State for their support and cordial relationship, he expressed hope for a better synergy in the new year.
The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of special plaques and souvenirs to Governor Diri and his deputy, Ewhrudjakpo, for their outstanding commitment to good governance and security of the state.
