Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, on Thursday, emerged as the factional candidate of the Peoples Democratic for the September 21 governorship election in the state.
Shaibu emerged the party’s governorship flagbearer with over 3000 votes in a parallel primary election held at his residence on Commercial Avenue, Benin City.
The Returning Officer, Bartholomew Moses, who announced the results after collation, declared that Shaibu won the primary election with an overwhelming majority of votes.
It was gathered that some delegates of the PDP who earlier went to the venue of the primary holding at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, were denied entry.
The delegates later moved to the deputy governor’s lodge, in Benin.
Shaibu reportedly addressed the delegates, advising them to remain peaceful.
He promised to speak with the primary electoral committee chairman.
They later resolved that a parallel exercise should hold and Shaibu emerged the winner and flagbearer of the party in the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
Delegates from 12 local government areas of Edo State reportedly elected Shaibu as the PDP governorship candidate.
