The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, and Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammad Matawalle, alongside the Permanent Secretary Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, and the entire staff of the Defence Ministry, have expressed deep condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Nigerian Army, and the Armed Forces over the passing of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja.
In a heartfelt statement issued by Henshaw Ogubike, Director of Information and Public Relations, Defence Ministry, the Defence leaders described Lt. General Lagbaja’s death as a profound loss to his family, the military, and the nation.
They praised the late Chief of Army Staff for his dedication to Nigeria’s internal security and his unwavering commitment to professionalism, noting that he played an instrumental role in the country’s security operations.
The statement read, “The passing on to eternal glory shocked us at the Ministry of Defence as our working relationship with him is commendable as he exhibited the spirit of camaraderie and cooperation with us in the discharge of our mandate.”
Lt. General Lagbaja’s tenure was marked by notable contributions to Nigeria’s internal security efforts, with the Ministry acknowledging his commitment to improving national safety and his efforts in fostering cooperation across Defence branches.
The Defence Ministry extended their prayers for Lt. General Lagbaja’s soul, stating, “May his soul rest in the bosom of the Lord,” while expressing condolences to his family, the Nigerian Army, and the Armed Forces who, they noted, would deeply feel his absence.
