Defence Minister Badaru: With Commitment, Resilience, We Will Defeat Banditry, Terrorism

The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s determination to end banditry and terrorism, urging the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to intensify its operations using advanced platforms provided by the administration.

Speaking during an operational visit to the Air Component Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA in Katsina State on Monday, November 18, 2024, the Minister emphasized the pivotal role of the Air Force in securing peace across the nation.

“You are key to this fight, and we must put our acts together to leverage your active component to end this war,” he stated.

In a statement by the Ministry’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Henshaw Ogubike, the Minister lauded the dedication of NAF personnel, describing them as “beacons of hope, courage, and resilience” who inspire the Nigerian people.

He noted the positive impact of their efforts, highlighting the gradual return of farmers to their fields, the reopening of schools, the resurgence of businesses, and improved security for citizens.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Minister revealed, has expressed unwavering confidence in the Air Force’s loyalty, professionalism, and perseverance.

“He recognizes the personal sacrifices you make every day to keep our country together,” Badaru said.

The Defence Minister also commended the provision of state-of-the-art aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) by the Tinubu administration, including the recently inducted T129 Attack Helicopters, which he described as transformative.

“I am confident we will make Mr. President and Nigerians proud,” he said, while flagging off a critical phase of operations aimed at maximizing combat efficiency.

The Minister called for synergy between the Air Force, ground forces, and other stakeholders to optimize the use of these advanced platforms.

During his operational tour, the Minister also visited Sokoto State to inspect combat readiness and assess the permanent base site for the newly established Air Force component of military operations at Sokoto Airport.

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Bala Abubakar, expressed gratitude for the Minister’s servant-leadership, noting that the introduction of T129 Attack Helicopters would significantly enhance Nigeria’s counter-terrorism capabilities.

“The T129 Attack Helicopters will transform our operational capabilities and send a strong message to those who think they can destabilize our nation,” Air Marshal Abubakar stated.

The visit underscores the government’s commitment to leveraging advanced military assets and strategic partnerships to restore peace and stability across Nigeria.
