Renowned Nigerian pastor, Helen Ukpabio, has filed a N200 billion defamation suit against singer Bloody Civilian over claims the artist made on social media.
The controversy erupted after Bloody Civilian accused Ukpabio, founder of Liberty Gospel Church, of “literally making people burn their children alive.”
The statement was made on the 22nd of November, 2024,in response to a post celebrating the pastor’s 60th birthday on X.
Alongside the comment, Bloody Civilian shared a YouTube documentary critiquing Ukpabio’s teachings and practices.
In reaction to the allegations, Ukpabio’s daughter, Imabong, issued a stern ultimatum, giving the singer just five hours to delete the post or face legal action.
True to her word, Ukpabio’s legal team followed up with a letter describing the accusations as “reckless, satanic, and libellous.”
The pastor is demanding N200 billion in damages for what she claims are distress, trauma, pain, and anguish caused by the allegations. Additionally, she has requested a public apology from the singer.
Taking to her X handle, Bloody Civilian appeared unfazed by the lawsuit, responding with a witty post that made light of the situation.
“Guys, they just sued me for 200 billion naira.
“This December I will be adding the following to my services: standup comedy, weddings and settling disputes,” she wrote, sparking a flurry of reactions online.
