The Dangote Group has revealed plans to transport refined petroleum products by sea, an initiative aimed at reducing pressure on Nigeria’s road networks and enhancing exports to other African countries.
The announcement was made in a statement on Sunday by Fatima Wali-Abdurrahman, Senior Adviser to the Group President on Special Projects and Strategic Relations.
Wali-Abdurrahman highlighted the construction of a jetty at the Lekki Free Zone, designed to manage bulk cargo during the development of the refinery.
She explained, “We are currently exporting our products to many African countries via the seaport. To further reduce road traffic from the refinery, we plan to transport finished petroleum products by sea to other ports along Nigeria’s coast for distribution to the hinterland.”
This move, according to the Dangote Group, will streamline the distribution of refined petroleum products and mitigate the pressure on road infrastructure.
The announcement came during the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) trade fair, where Dangote Group, a major sponsor, attracted widespread attention. Many visitors expressed interest in the company’s various business sectors, including Dangote Fertiliser, Dangote Sugar, NASCON (Dangote Salt), and Dangote Cement, as well as the newly operational Dangote Refinery, which recently commenced discharging petroleum products.
Participants like Peter Ibrahim and Sale Sagir were eager to learn about job and business opportunities with the Dangote Group.
Ibrahim shared, “I came to the Dangote booth to explore the business and job opportunities at the Dangote Refinery. The company must have created several opportunities.”
Sagir, a cement dealer, stated, “I came to find out how to become a distributor of other Dangote products, especially petroleum products.”
Wali-Abdurrahman also discussed the group’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint through investments in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).
“Over the past decade, we have converted about a third of our fleet to CNG, and this process will continue until we convert the entire fleet,” she said.
ACCI President Chief Emeka Obegolu, represented by Vice President Legal Aisha Abdullahi, commended the Dangote Group for its pivotal role in Nigeria’s industrial development.
“The taxes paid by the group contribute significantly to national revenue, supporting infrastructure projects and social programs that benefit millions of Nigerians,” Obegolu remarked.
The Dangote Group continues to demonstrate its commitment to Nigeria’s economic growth, while also positioning itself as a key player in Africa’s energy and industrial sectors.
