In a high-profile gathering at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Chairman of Dangote Foundation, Aliko Dangote, and Microsoft CEO, Bill Gates, joined prominent Nigerian leaders for a crucial National Economic Council (NEC) meeting.
Vice President Kashim Shettima presided over the session, which took place on Wednesday, focusing extensively on pressing health and nutrition issues in the country.
The meeting, which brought together key stakeholders in Nigeria’s economic and political landscape, was attended by several governors, including Babagana Zulum of Borno State, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, Duoye Diri of Bayelsa, Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi, and Lawan Dauda of Zamfara State.
In addition, deputy governors, ministers, and state commissioners were present, representing various states and ministries.
The presence of Dangote and Gates underscored the significance of the meeting, particularly in addressing health and nutrition, areas where both leaders have made substantial contributions through their respective foundations.
The Dangote Foundation and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation have been instrumental in supporting health initiatives across Africa, making their input crucial to the discussions.
The agenda of the meeting extended beyond health and nutrition, as the NEC is expected to provide a comprehensive review of Nigeria’s economic policy. With the recent fuel price increase generating widespread concern, it is anticipated that this issue will also be addressed, with a focus on its impact on the nation’s economy and the well-being of its citizens.
As the NEC meeting continues, stakeholders and citizens alike are hopeful that the discussions will lead to actionable solutions to the challenges facing the nation, particularly in the areas of health, nutrition, and economic stability.
