…Describes late technocrat as irreplaceable pillar in industry
Former Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Dakuku Peterside, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of renowned maritime expert, Dr Chris Asoluka, describing his death as a monumental loss to the sector and the nation.
In a heartfelt tribute issued on Saturday, Peterside said the news of Asoluka’s demise came as a shock, noting that the late technocrat served as a mentor, adviser, and unwavering supporter during his tenure at NIMASA.
“Dr Asoluka was an authority and quintessential consultant on maritime issues. I looked up to him during my time and even after leaving NIMASA. He was ever willing to offer advice and insight. His dedication to maritime development was second to none,” Peterside stated.
He recalled the pivotal role the deceased played in shaping key industry policies, including his instrumental contributions to the making and implementation of the Cabotage Act and his involvement in the passage of the NIMASA Act of 2007 as a legislative adviser.

Peterside also praised Asoluka’s leadership in various capacities, including his service as Chairman of the Nigeria Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority (OGFZA), member of the Governing Board of the Nigeria Chamber of Shipping, and Chairman of the Maritime Development Committee.
“The maritime industry has lost a major stakeholder, whose voice and ideas influenced policy and were respected far beyond Nigeria’s borders. His legacy is one of impact, vision, and commitment,” Peterside added.
He extended his condolences to the Asoluka family, the people of Imo State, and maritime stakeholders across the country, affirming that the late technocrat gave his all in service to Nigeria.
