The Seme Border Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has launched an investigation into a viral video showing officers allegedly abusing civilians.
In a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Hussaini Abdullahi, Customs Area Comptroller Kayode Kolade confirmed the immediate withdrawal of the implicated officers for questioning.
“This step is to ensure appropriate disciplinary measures are taken,” the statement read.
Kolade expressed empathy for the victims and described the alleged actions as inconsistent with the Service’s values. He pledged that the findings of the investigation would be made public.
The Command also encouraged stakeholders and the public along the Lagos-Abidjan Corridor to continue their lawful activities. It reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a safe and secure environment for legitimate trade.
