The Nigeria Customs Service has intercepted smuggled Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) valued at over N63 million and confiscated five vehicles in Adamawa State as part of its intensified anti-smuggling campaign.
Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, made the disclosure Friday during a press briefing in Yola, represented by Hussein Ejibunu, the National Coordinator of the Customs’ special task force, Operation Whirlwind.
The seizure, Adeniyi said, was made along illegal border routes between Adamawa State and Cameroon, where smugglers attempted to ferry fuel across the border in defiance of national regulations.
“Operation Whirlwind had repositioned all its machineries across the area of its responsibilities and ensured that the border became watertight,” Adeniyi stated. “This had made it difficult for economic saboteurs to carry out their smuggling activities.”

The Customs boss emphasized that the operation aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s economic protection mandate, which includes safeguarding Nigeria’s resources and curbing cross-border fuel smuggling.
According to Ejibunu, the seized PMS will be auctioned to the public immediately, with proceeds paid into the Federation Account.
This development marks a major success in Nigeria’s ongoing crackdown on fuel diversion and smuggling, particularly in border states.
